Welcome to William P. Jordan American Legion Post 500

Chartered in 1946, William P. Jordan American Legion Post 500 proudly holds the distinction of being Georgia's first African American American Legion Post. For nearly 80 years, our Post has served as a place where veterans come together in fellowship, service, leadership, and community.

Named in honor of Second Lieutenant William P. Jordan, a Savannah native and World War II hero, our Post stands as a lasting tribute to his courage and sacrifice. Lt. Jordan, of the 92nd Infantry Division, 366th Infantry Regiment, was reported missing while leading his platoon during combat near Querceta, Italy, on December 31, 1944, and was officially declared a casualty on January 1, 1946. He was awarded the Purple Heart and is memorialized on the Tablets of the Missing at the Florence American Cemetery and Memorial in Italy.

Established during a pivotal moment in American history, Post 500 was created to ensure that African American veterans had a place to gather, serve, and continue their commitment to their communities. Today, we proudly welcome all eligible veterans, active-duty military, National Guard, and Reserve members from every branch of the United States Armed Forces.

By joining William P. Jordan American Legion Post 500, you become part of a proud legacy dedicated to serving God, Country, and Community through veteran advocacy, youth mentorship, civic engagement, and community service. Together, we honor the past while building a stronger future for veterans, their families, and the Savannah community.

"Veterans Serving Veterans, Building Community, and Preserving a Legacy Since 1946."
